Homeschool Community based in the north shore of Greater Vancouver, BC, Canada

North Shore Home-Learners Group

Lower Mainland, British Colombia, Canada

Nestled between the mountains and beaches of North and West Vancouver, our vibrant homeschool community brings together families from across the North Shore, including Lions Bay and neighboring municipalities in British Columbia's Lower Mainland. As of Fall 2023, our thriving group has grown to over 100 members, with children ranging from newborns to teenagers. We foster a supportive environment where both parents and children can forge lasting friendships and share educational experiences.

The Nuts and Bolts

Our group is entirely parent-run, and active participation is the cornerstone of our success. We encourage all parents to be involved in planning events, field trips, and group outings. This collaborative spirit has led to a rich variety of activities throughout the year, including:Monthly parent meetings covering topics like curriculum, parenting, resource sharing, and event planning. Below is an example of events that we have during the year:• Not-Back-To-School Picnic in September
• Science and History Fairs (Nov. & February)
• Christmas Potluck Party + Talent Showcase (December)
• Business Fair for young entrepreneurs (October)
• Group field trips
• Square Dance
• Sports Day (May)
• Year-End Picnic
• Park Days during spring and summer months
To facilitate communication, we use Groups.io - a mobile-ready, privacy-focused, and ad-free mailing list platform. This platform also hosts a repository of valuable resources, including information on online schools, member-recommended materials, and even a community babysitter list. We encourage all members to contribute their favourite resources to this growing collection. To support our activities and ensure we can provide quality experiences, we collect an annual fee to pool our resources as a group. This fee covers costs such as venue rentals for large events like the Christmas Party (usually attended by 150+ people), Science and History Fairs, and Sports Day, as well as group insurance.

For the upcoming year (September 2024 - September 2025), the fee will be $30 CAD per family.
